Explore Strasbourg

Today we had planned to see the village of Colmar but opted to explore Strasbourg since we had not seen any of the old town. So off we walked toward the cathedral du Notre Dame   It is a great day we have blue sky although rain is forecast for later today.

A view of the cathedral and the Atomic clock. Next we decided on a boat ride actually wanted an open boat but would have an hour and half wait. The rain was due in about 2 hours and no umbrellas can be used on the boat so closed it was. Found a WC and boarded the boat. An enjoyable hour.

A stroll back to the cathedral passed by some restaurants and decided lunch was in order.  On our tour yesterday Stephania told us about an Alsace special Tarte Flambé. This is similar to pizza or a crepe. Time to try it. We stopped at a cafe with outside tables and umbrellas and was told No. inside. Inside turned out to be the best option. The rain came down in buckets associated with thunder and lightning. Two thoughts came to mind. Glad we are inside and happier we did not wait for the open boat ride.

The thunder storm passed while we were in the restaurant so off we go ready to further explore the old town. Next stop the Alsace Museum. We get there to find it was closed.  Today is May 1st.  It is Labor Day in all of Europe.  Employers are required to give employees off unless their business is essential. This explains why several shops were closed and the museums.

We wandered into La Petite France and walked about found another cafe for dessert and a glass of wine. Then headed back to the hotel.

A good day.  We attempted laundry in the hotel and it was another disaster as the dryer turned itself off every 3-5 minutes. This hotel although a Marriott property left lots to be desired but typically French   There was no closet just an open space with hangers only 2 drawers so not enough space to put away clothes and there was a table and chair that faced away from the window and our view. Oh well, we will see what the next city brings. We are off to Reims in the morning and champagne in the afternoon.
