Austria

 The river cruise is flying by or should I say rolling along. I think this is because we spent 2 days in Budapest and 2 days in Passau so there are only 4 cities between that we stop at.  

Linz is our next stop. It is a far more interesting city than we expected. The city is divided by the Danube and more importantly after WWII was divided when the Soviets ruled one side of the river and Austria ruled the other. 

Linz has a long history and is a capital of upper Austria, Mozart spent time there and even composed the Linz symphony. In addition to the Hapsburg family and their long history in Vienna and all of Austria  

We came into town and in the town square is a flea market. Sellers were mostly garage sale type items with lots of shoes and clothing. Of course Dan found a new relic for the garden. Have to ask him. 

The afternoon we decided to go to the botanical garden.  This is the first town we have been seen with a garden. It was a great garden and since it is Saturday in spring there was a spring garden event. So we checked with the information office. One bus no transfer and a bus stop for the botanical garden.  No problems although Dan when paying did not ask for the senior discount for garden entry  

Time to leave, I purchased a donut with apricot jam and powdered sugar to hold us over since I had an iced coffee and Dan had a beer earlier. No food just carbs and liquid. Most people would return to the stop that dropped them off and cross the street to get the bus into town.  Not us. We opted to walk down hill to the next stop although we never found it until we were 1/4 of a mile from the start. Just continued to walk. Thank goodness for google maps. 

We then took the tram across the river and to the top of a hill to see the church and the view then back down. This time getting on where we got off for the trip back down the hill. We are such quick learners. 

Back on the ship where dinner tonight is a regional menu with everyone getting the same plates. But the staff is dressed up and it is festive.  Hard to believe that our last port is tomorrow.
